Activities and Excursions

Hedsor House is conveniently located in Taplow, a bustling and beautiful part of the South East.

Just a stone’s throw from the House is the historic town of Windsor, and a short train journey will take you to the heart of central London. With award-winning fine dining, scenic countryside trails and the beautiful River Thames on our doorstep, there’s so much to explore outside the Hedsor estate.

On the Estate

Hedsor House is one of the country’s most desirable country house wedding venues, set within 100 acres of historic Grade II listed parkland.

On the estate itself, you can take a stroll around our private grounds, admire the sweeping views over the Thames valley, visit the picturesque St Nicholas Church (pictured), meet the Highland cows and maybe even catch a glimpse of our wild pheasants and resident families of roe and muntjac deer.

Or enjoy a friendly game of tennis on our full-sized court and indulge in some proper British fun with a round of croquet on the lawn.

Heritage and Historic Gardens

Nestled in Hedsor’s surrounding countryside is a plethora of breathtaking historic and heritage sites and gardens awaiting exploration.

Our neighbour, Cliveden House (pictured), is a wonderful National Trust property to visit for its gorgeous vistas and manicured gardens. A trip to West Wycombe offers beautiful scenery at Hugendon Manor and a chance to explore the underground trails of Hellfire Caves.

Why not take a trip to Royal Windsor for something fun and different? You can tour Windsor Castle (pictured) followed by afternoon tea at the Sir Christopher Wren Hotel. Take a stroll along the Long Walk and indulge in some shopping on historic Windsor high street. Stop by the beautiful Savill Gardens whilst you’re there for a slice of cake and a relaxed walk amongst the flowers. .

Gastronomic Delights

Hedsor is within a short drive of some of the most renowned restaurants in the country. With family and friends coming together for your special day, it makes sense to celebrate by sharing a beautiful and delicious meal together.

If you’re looking for a luxury gastropub experience, we recommend The Bel & Dragon and The Ferry in Cookham, or one of Heston Blumenthal’s pubs in Bray: The Crown or The Hind’s Head (1 Michelin Star).

For fantastic world cuisine, we recommend Malik’s in Cookham for a delicious Indian affair or Alain Roux’s Roux at Skindles (pictured), a French brasserie right on the waterfront, the perfect setting for a sundowner. The nearby town of Marlow also has wonderful dining options, including Tom Kerridge’s The Hand and Flowers (2 Michelin Stars), The Coach and The Butchers Tap.

For a show-stopping dinner, book Heston Blumenthal’s The Fat Duck at Bray or Alain Roux’s The Waterside Inn at Bray, both with 3 Michelin Stars.

The River Thames at Marlow

On the Water

Take to the water with Boating at Bray and charter a trip down the beautiful River Thames (pictured). Or you could take a stroll perusing the boutiques and cafes adorning the high street in Marlow, a beautifully quaint town on the bank of the River Thames.

The Maidenhead, Cookham, and Bourne End riversides are beautiful if you are looking for a country walk. Start at the Spade Oak pub in Bourne End and walk downriver, crossing the bridge into Cookham. You’ll arrive at Cookham Moor, a lovely spot for a picnic and a quaint high street with numerous traditional pubs and cafes.

If you’re after pure relaxation, take a dip in the pool at nearby Nirvana Spa, Danesfield House & Spa, or Cliveden Spa (pictured). For beauty services such as massages, manicures and pedicures, facials, a spray tan or eyebrow and eyelash treatments, we recommend Mulberry’s, The Gallery GX and Serenity Lounge.

Entertainment

If you are looking for entertainment, take a trip to Theatre Royal Windsor or The Mill at Sonning (pictured). These venues host a variety of performances, comedy shows, and musical events.

The Wycombe Swan also frequently hosts popular touring shows from London’s West End and excels during Panto season.
Ascot Racecourse

Sporting Activities

Hedsor has some of the best horse racing in the country just a short drive away from the estate. Enjoy a day trip to Ascot Racecourse (pictured) or Windsor Racecourse, which both have a plethora of seasonal activities and race days throughout the year.

Why not indulge in a jaunt around the scenic and beautiful Lambourne Golf Club in nearby Burnham? Alternatively, for an affordable, more casual round of golf, we are just a few minutes away from both Huntswood Golf Club and Hedsor Golf Club.

Travelling with Children

A short drive away, you’ll find the enthralling world of Legoland Windsor (pictured), the perfect family day out. You’ll find everything from thrilling rides to interactive attractions and captivating shows, all inspired by Lego. For more miniature fun, we are round the corner from Bekonscot Model Village, a quaint and wonderful little world from a bygone era.

For your littlest guests, Hedsor is located just a few minutes away from Odds Farm Park, a quaint animal farm park with a calendar full of seasonal activities for outdoor adventures.
